The Sixers, The Rockets, No Picks For Today And Whatever Else Comes To Mind

Filed under: Sports, Place Your Bets

Yesterday, I had my first losing day in a while (1-2) and now I’m teetering on the brink of sub-.500 again.  I’m 25-24-3 (51%) and just couldn’t find a game I really liked on Sunday.  There are seven games on Monday and I’m sure I’ll be able to find something on the card I like.

What is going on with the Sixers?  They are 14-5 after starting off the year 16-28.  I have to admit, this is the least amount of interest I’ve had in the Sixers in a long time and I used to watch them every night when their best player was Clarence Weatherspoon.  I watched them destroy the Clippers on Monday, the Sonics on Friday and then the Bucks today and I’m just stunned about how well they are playing.  Iguadola looked amazing and Samuel Dalembert is averaging a double-double.  They are a half game away from the 6 spot in the playoffs and if they have a realistic shot at having their first 40 win season since 2004-05.  I thought they had a shot at 40 wins with the way they finished last season and then that horrible start this season got me thinking Michael Beasley possibilities.  Now, they might even have a shot at getting through the first round of the playoffs.

The Rockets are just sick!  18 in a row???  I think the Western Conference race may be the most exciting NBA basketball in a long time and the Rockets are a perfect example of this.  They just rattled off 18 in a row and look amazing and they are one losing streak away from being out of the playoffs.  I know it’s highly unlikely but it is entirely within the realm of possibility that the Denver Nuggets catch fire and one of the teams currently in the top 8 collapses and the Nuggets sneak in… they’d be 4th in the East.  Back to the Rockets, though.  They haven’t even looked like they dropped off much since Yao Ming suffered his injury.

"The Wire" closes out its 5th and last season tonight.  I haven’t commented on it at all this season but it is as excellent as always.  I’m extremely excited about this last episode.  It made me think about my favorite TV dramas ever and I’ll follow-up tonight with a post of my favorite 10 TV dramas of all-time and where "The Wire" falls on that list.

Since this is supposed to be about poker, I figured I’d give a quick update.  I had a solid day yesterday and was +$60 for the day.  I have run off 3 straight Sit & Go wins on Full Tilt.  The online record is 8… long way to go for that one.
